Sensing Precision has been appointed to supply University Hospital Dorset NHS Foundation Trust with its Wilson Flowgrids as part of the transformation of The Royal Bournemouth Hospital.
A new state of the art building, known as the BEACH Building (Births, Emergency, Critical care and children’s Health) will be constructed. It will include a new purpose-built maternity unit, dedicated children’s unit, enhanced emergency department and a critical care unit.
Environmental sustainability is central to the building development: the new BEACH Building will be constructed to a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ standard, performance equivalent to the top 10% of buildings in the UK. This is ahead of Bournemouth Council’s current policy requirement of ‘very good’. To assist in reaching the BREEAM target, Sensing Precision has manufactured and supplied rectangular Wilson Flowgrids and Wilson Radial Flowgrids to be used throughout different areas of the Hospital.
Wilson Flowgrids are tried and tested technology and have inherent accuracy for measurement and primary control of airflow. They can achieve ±2% of volume flow due to having a greater number of sensing points than other flow grids: the greater the proportion of the duct area being monitored, the greater the accuracy of flow measurement.
The BEACH Building will provide top class care. The building will have upgrades to energy, information technology and other infrastructure. There will be a new purpose built maternity unit for pregnancy and birthing care, including two obstetric theatres and a critical care unit with capacity for 30 beds. Richard Renaut, University Hospital Dorset’s chief strategy and transformation officer, commented: “It will be a modern, sustainable building, providing high quality facilities for our existing services, allowing our clinical teams to improve the way we deliver the services within it.”
The BEACH Building forms part of the £250m transformation and development plans for University Hospital Dorset Sites, where Sensing Precision have already provided Wilson Flowgrids.
