We are delighted to be welcoming Nick to the team as Mechanical/Aerospace Project Engineering Placement. Nick will be completing his placement year with us before returning to the University of Surrey to complete his degree in Aerospace Engineering BEng (Hons).
Nick has been with us for a couple of months now, we have asked him some questions about his time with us so far.
What brought you to apply for Mechanical/Aerospace Project Engineering Placement?
The application for a placement role at Sensing Precision immediately intrigued me. It told of a specialised and successful company that I would be able to learn and gain vital experience from. I took it upon myself to further research the company and I learned of the original products that the company manufactures and the wide range of ambitious projects that these products are used in across the world.
What’s your key role and responsibilities?
My roles include managing work orders for manufacturing and placing purchase orders for parts using our online system. This keeps the various sectors of the company organised and coordinated in the effort to produce quality goods. I operate shop floor machinery such as the CNC machines, which involves collecting the fabricated parts and making sure they are checked to a good standard of quality. This includes sanding and deburring the fabricated parts. Lastly, I construct boxes to fit our bespoke products and pack them, ensuring that after transit the products will be delivered undamaged.
What do you most enjoy about Mechanical/Aerospace engineering?
I most enjoy the hands-on aspect of mechanical engineering; I love to physically build and put things together, as well as use machinery and tools. I have already had many opportunities to do that here, using a bench drill to create holes in pressure tubes, which I very much enjoyed.
What are your impressions of Sensing Precision Ltd?
My impressions are that Sensing Precision Ltd is an organised and experienced company that is hard working and important in the industry. I have learned in my time so far that there is always work to be done and orders to be completed due to the popularity and quality of our products. My co-workers are friendly and always willing to assist me and help me with any queries I have, which I appreciate very much.
We are excited that Nick has chosen to do his placement year with us and look forward to him learning new skills from our experienced engineers, along with learning more about the engineering industry.
