PATON 1000 Leakage Tester
The PATON 1000 Leakage Tester is the largest and most powerful NVH leakage tester from Sensing Precision. It can generate up to 1000l/s of airflow at 1000Pa static pressure. It is an incredibly powerful machine that can satisfy the most stringent of automotive test requirements. The PATON 1000 boasts two on board fans which both use conical inlet nozzles. The smaller fan has an output capability of 0 – 350l/s while the larger fan can be used to generate flow from 300 – 1000l/s. This provides a suitable overlap for test engineers when testing a vehicles leakage performance.
The PATON 1000 utilises an instrument module containing three pressure transmitters to monitor Static Pressure, Flowrate, Barometric Pressure & Temperature and Humidity. A computer system preinstalled with the control software allows the engineer to easily control the machine in either manual test mode, or PID Closed Loop Control mode. Extra ancillary devices that can be included with the unit are an Air Heater and Smoke Generator unit on the smaller fan outlet.
The PATON 1000 Leakage Tester is used to positively or negatively pressurize vehicle body shells in order to obtain a measure of the build quality. During a PID closed loop controlled positive pressure test, air is fed into the vehicle at a volume flow rate such that a predefined pressure is held constant. Given that known openings will have been masked, then the volume flow rate of air required to do this will equal the volume flow rate of air being lost through unwanted apertures. Under a negative pressure test, the air is extracted from the vehicle. In both cases, the volume flow rate required to maintain a predefined static pressure then becomes a measure of vehicle build quality, or Equivalent Body Hole Size (EBHS).
